The Girls’ Brigade

3rd Motherwell Company

Times:

Explorers (P1-P3) – 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Juniors (P4-P7) – 6:45pm to 8:10pm

Brigaders (S1-S6) – 7pm to 8:30pm

This year we have three officers working with our Explorer section.  Sharon, Gillian and Christina are kept on their toes with a small number of girls which we are hoping will increase throughout the year.

Susan, Kirsty and Alice work with the junior section with the help of Norma one of the company’s auxiliaries.  This year the junior numbers have increased to over 25 the biggest number of girls we have had in this section for a number of years.

The six brigaders work closely with Christine and Alexis.

The company’s captain Mrs Bogle works with all sections during the year.

Maureen is in charge of tuck shop and helps out with the company’s youngest members – the officers’ children.

Last but not least we have Mrs Campbell who is our craft expert.

The company is working on a focus this year called ‘Healthy Living’.  The junior and brigader sections are working together to improve their fitness and knowledge of healthy food and drink.  The girls’ activities include some circuit training, basketball and swimming.

The junior girls had a visit from Robert Toal, a pool supervisor in the Time Capsule, to talk about pool safety with the girls before we take them swimming on the 5th of October.  The girls thoroughly enjoyed speaking with Robert and now have a better understanding of pool safety.

Our recent junior camp to Craggen was a great success with 18 girls, 7 officers and 3 toddlers.  Each of the girls helped to prepare the meals, tidy up the dishes and keep all our living quarters clean.  The girls enjoyed a walk on the beach and collecting stones to decorate.  On Saturday afternoon everyone participated in The Highland Games and enjoyed a bbq on the beach for dinner.  Some photos of this trip can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Each year we enjoy a fancy dress party. This year our theme is sports stars to coincide with our ‘Healthy Living’ focus.  The date of this party is still to be confirmed.

As always we get into the spirit of Christmas by enjoying a night at the panto in Motherwell Civic Centre.  This year the panto is ‘Beauty and the Beast’.  If you don’t want to miss out please see one of the officers as soon as possible.
