The Boys’ Brigade

BB AnchorThe 2nd / 4th Motherwell Boys’ Brigade Company is the oldest company in Motherwell and has been in existance since 1889.

The Boys’ Brigade is a worldwide Christian youth organisation and provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. These resources have been developed to help volunteer youth leaders work in a relevant and creative way. We hope through these programmes they will be able to make a positive contribution to a young person’s life and be able to share their faith.

The Boys’ Brigade has been around for over 125 years and in 2008 we celebrated our 125th Anniversary. Its founder, Sir William Alexander Smith, created the object “The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness”.

Our Boys’ Brigade Company comprises of three sections –

  • Anchor Boys – open to boys aged 5 to 8 years and takes place within the Church halls on a Friday evening between 6pm and 7pm.
  • Junior Section – open to boys aged 8 to 11 years and takes place on a Friday evening between 6.30pm and 8.00pm.
  • Company Section – open to boys aged 11 to 18 years and takes place on a Friday evening between 7.00pm and 9.30pm.
