“Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.” (Psalm 51:13 NIVUK) It’s said that there’s generally no-one quite as passionate about stamping out smoking as an ex-smoker. Today’s verse from the Psalms, illustrates the same principle. David knows what it is to be knocked off his elevated pedestal, and then, forgiven by God, to begin to piece his life together again. Therefore, the one who has been shown mercy is keen to share it with others immediately. That ought to be the case for every follower of Jesus Christ. Many in society have entirely the wrong take on Christians. They seem to think that we believe we are perfect, holier-than-thou! Eh, actually, NO! The reverse is true. Utterly convinced of the corruption in our hearts, we are totally aware of our need for God’s mercy. And, having gone through a life-changing encounter with the risen Lord, naturally, we desire that for others. So, if you’re not a believer (yet), be patient with your Christian friends and colleagues as they share the Gospel with you – trust me, they’re just trying to do you a good turn.
