"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:18 NIVUK) The cross is like spiritual Marmite. Some only see a deluded and dying man; His weakness exposed and overcome by Judas Iscariot, Herod and Pontius Pilate. Others perceive the Lamb of God, the Saviour of the world, and the Lord of Glory; through sacrifice and service, He displays the true power of love. Ultimately, if you or I were marooned on a desert island with nothing to eat but Marmite, whether we liked it or not, we would gobble it up in order to live. Similarly, in our generation, there are those who need to swallow their pride and accept a crucified Christ as the very Bread of Life.
