"‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. ‘Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" (Matthew 7: 7-11 NIVUK) In bygone days (how old do I sound, by the way?), it was not uncommon for salesmen to hawk their wares from door to door. It must have been a tough existence, and I’m sure many a door was slammed in their face. Nevertheless, it was deemed worth it for the occasional sale. These days, most folk would be cautious about opening their door to someone they did not recognise, out of simple fear. Thankfully, God has no such hesitation. When you and I come calling, He responds in love, and with genuine concern. Listening to our pitch, He gives us what we need – I say again, "what we NEED," which is not necessarily the same as what we WANT! In other words, He always knows and does what is best for His children. Take some time to knock on Heaven’s door today; through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, you can be sure it will open to you.
