"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"(Luke 11:13 NIVUK) How many of you have kept cards from your 18th or 21st Birthday celebrations? Did you buy (or were you given) something special as a keepsake on such an occasion, an item you still cherish years later? Perhaps that card or gift brings back memories to you of a parent, grandparent or best friend who has now departed this life? Such things can be very precious. But, the thoughts and feelings they raise in you are even more valuable still. As our Father in Heaven, God wants to give us what best meets our needs on every occasion. The Holy Spirit fits that description perfectly. He brings peace in our anxious times, guidance when we feel uncertain of the way forward and, most of all, a real sense of the presence of our risen Lord Jesus Christ. Honestly, my life would be so much poorer if I did not know the Holy Spirit’s presence. What about you? Of all the things for which you might ask God today, make the gift of the Holy Spirit a priority – you will not be disappointed.
